I hear the same piano notes repeated over and over.
And the same songs repeated for days, weeks and months.
Practicing one tiny section, then another. Piecing it all together while simultaneously stumbling along the way.
Sarah, my wife is aiming to do her grade 7 piano exam by the end of this year.
And she often shares her doubts, and her frustrations about the new pieces she is playing. How hard they are, how boring it gets and how some days she just doesn’t want to play.
But she still does.
Working with resistance is a skill.
And, like any skill. It must be practiced and trained until it becomes a tool that you can use.
Most people don’t want to work with it,
They want to work against it or without it.
And they often mistakenly make this meaning from it
Resistance to act as a reason to doubt,
And then not do.
I see it every week with clients.
They think their resistance to direct message people who start following them,
OR
Their resistance to making people offers,
OR
Their resistance to sitting down and applying the Demartini Method
Makes it valid not to do it.
When it doesn’t.
The skill to act in the face of resistance leads to being able to act in the face of bigger and bigger resistance.
As you act against resistance, it activates and increases the size of the anterior cingulate cortex and its connections in the brain. This area relates to grit, perseverance, willingness to continue and the value of effort.
It’s like going to the gym and consistently loading up and working your muscles under tension. They grow.
So does this skill. Its associated traits and the brain region are responsible.
I will leave you with this.
What action/s are you resisting that, if you took it, would transform your life or business?
Until next week,
Keep Smashing Growth Ceilings.
