Bonnie was a few weeks off her first birthday when I started Maximum Growth.
I wondered, how will I ever be able to run a business, continue private consulting and be a Mum to this little one. And not to mention taking care of myself physically, having time for a relationship, and seeing family and friends.
But a little secret part of me wants “it” all.
I didn’t want to sacrifice one for another. I have a dream of fulfilling all my values and vision for my life.
“I want it all (yeah)
I want it all, and I want it now” Thanks, Queen.
As Bonnie creeps into her 4th year of life, I think about the example I am showing her of how to be a single mother, a businesswoman, and a student of life and how I am showing up every day.
It’s been tough, some nights I have been up until midnight, crawl into bed with Bonnie (yes, we co-sleep and I love it!). She kicks me in the middle of the sleep, multiple times a night, to then lean over, put her tiny little fingers on my eyelids to pry them open and say “Time to wake up Mumma.”
I love her. And I love the work I do with humanity. I can’t choose one or the other. My soul would crush if I did.
I want both. (plus all the other things too!)
But everything comes at a cost. You can’t gain something without losing something else.
One realisation has been, if it means I achieve some of my goals 12 months later because I took time out to train, see a friend, or be with Bonnie, then I’ll take the 12 months.
I want to be able to achieve all my goals, not just tunnel vision on one and forget everything else.
I want it all – do you?
The key is to find balance within our values and prioritize what is truly important.
It’s not about achieving everything at once, but rather about taking small steps every day towards your goals.
One thing that has helped me is planning as much as possible. If I haven’t planned my week, my entire life turns upside down, and others run my week with unexpected calls and meetings that run over, and I’m scattered in my mind as to what needs to be done.
Instead, every week I block out time for work, family, fitness and filling my own cup.
It’s about living a life that is aligned with your values and vision and being true to yourself in the process.
Remember to enjoy the journey and appreciate the moments along the way. As the saying goes, “Life is a journey, not a destination.”
