Last week I visited Sydney,
Where Tan and I spent 2 solid days planning and strategizing the next 7 years of Maximum Growth.
And as you can imagine, it was full of inspiring ideas, decision-making, planning, researching and…
Yep, you guessed it…
And if you read Tan’s previous blog post…
You knew it…
A few moments of
…Overwhelm
Did you know that it is one of the most debilitating emotions that most people face?
When overwhelm rears its head, it often freezes people or causes people to go into fight or flight mode.
Leaving them stuck in their heads scattered in focus without the capacity to take action or problem-solving, and leading them to use their preferred emotional avoidance strategies.
Like mindlessly standing in the cupboard eating, scrolling Instagram or having a sneaky whisky or wine to try to relax the mind and body…
But here is a little:
insider tip on Overwhelm…
Feeling overwhelmed is a feedback symptom from your physiology to awaken you to the fact your psychology is unaligned with the law of the one and the many.
You’re attempting to process many:
- Tasks
- Action
- Responsibilities
- Information
Coupled with a lack of one or many of these:
- Prioritisation (order)
- Realistic Time frames (Space and Time)
- Correct chunk sizes (big or small picture)
- Vision (one)
So what did Tan and I do?
We did a state break…
I said to Tan “I am going to stand on my head”
Tan said great “I am going to do some handstands”
So we did exactly that…
And
Boom…
We figured out that we had a timeframe issue.
We had a big vision with lots of actions, tasks, change and problems to be solved BUT we were still playing in a time frame that was way too small…
And because it was way too small we had “many” goals, problems and actions to take in an unrealistic time frame.
So we expanded our time frame to a more expanded time period in that we could have the certainty we could create our vision.
We aligned ourselves both in time and vision with the law of the one and the many.
The many goals prioritised over time are part of the one vision.
Whereas before we had many goals and one vision unprioritized in the time frame of now (No time and space)
Then the overwhelm dissipated, and our creativity and inspiration came flooding back.
Questions of Growth:
When resolving Overwhelm think of it as physiological feedback that your psychology is unaligned with the law of the one and the many.
Ask these questions in this order to create alignment with this law.
1. What are the tasks, actions or goals occupying my mind causing my overwhelm?
Write them out. (Taking the Many out of the mind) This may include big picture chunks (visions/goals) and small chunks (tasks and actions)
2. What outcome/s, goals or vision is each task or action leading to? This may be one outcome or a few. (This is the “one” that the “many” align with)
Write under each outcome, goal or vision the chunked-down tasks/actions required in action priority order to achieve the outcome. (Creating order and aligning the many and the one)
Write down the time frames each task needs to be completed (creating time and space for action).
Then prioritise your vision, outcomes and goals in order of importance and urgency and start acting.
Until next week,
